Fort St. John
BC Grain Producers Association
Buick, BC Facility
Pilot at: Ernest Wiebe
The project objective is to dry harvested crops (wheat, barley, oat and canola) using the same storage bins at the facility (in-bin drying) using wood pellet in an ultra high efficiency biomass burner (gasification) and air-air heat exchanger as a heat source.
Direct benefits include:
-
Ability to dry efficiently portion of the harvest that need supplemental drying, using renewable energy with a low carbon footprint.
-
Reduce the high capital cost on buying expensive grain dryers.
-
Control the cost of drying onsite by using low-cost fuel. It is estimated a saving close to 50% by drying onsite compared to drying at delivery facility.
-
Implementation of a high efficiency wood pellet burner using biomass gasification technology in conjunction with an air-air heat exchanger.
-
Reduce the carbon emission footprint.
Biomass Gasification Burner capacity= 600,000 kcal/h
Air-Air Heat exchanger= Clean hot air (60-150 Celsius) with a flow of 43,000 m3/h
Fuel consumption= 137 kg/h
